Cleaning and Maintaining Your Iron Door

Is essential to keep it looking great and preserve the finish for as long as possible

When it comes to your home’s exterior, proper care today means better curb appeal tomorrow.

Beyond weather and sun exposure, regular use can contribute to wear on your door over time, especially when the Front Door is used as a primary entry point to your home.

Any exterior metal surfaces of your Iron door should be cleaned at least twice a year. If you live in a harsh environment like a coastal region, your door should be cleaned quarterly.

This is essential to adhere to your Iron door’s warranty requirements. Prevent the loss of your warranty coverage by keeping a regular cleaning schedule.

Three steps to effective cleaning

1) Clean the door surface from dust with a clean lint-free cloth.

2) Mix one cup of Simple Green non-toxic biodegradable cleaner (less than 0.5% phosphate) into 1 gallon of water, put the contents in a spray bottle.

3) Apply to the door and then clean with a clean lint-free cloth.

Benefits of Cleaning Your Iron Door

Helps to prevent rust, which is caused by foreign matter or salt adhering to the door. It also helps restore the look of the factory-applied finish by removing dirt and chalking from the materials.

Weather conditions vary across the country and several factors can affect the paint and finish, including exposure from chemicals and minerals in the water and in the air. Well water can be especially damaging.

Doors installed in coastal areas
